Coachbuilt Prams, Canopies and Quilt Sets

THE BONES!

I've started a new project!     Actually I'm just making a start on restoring my 1950s/60s prams, which is something I have planned to do since I started collecting.    I like most prams, but have a particular fondness for the prams which were used when I was a small child and which I saw carrying babies many times during my childhood.   I had always imagined my mother having another baby and buying a big pram on leather straps so I could wheel the baby in it, unfortunately she didn't oblige, neither did she provide me with a dolls pram following my detailed instructions, and so I had to rely on friends to let me share their baby brothers and sisters!

The pram I have chosen this time is a 1950s SilverCross Regency which, as you can see, is in dire need of some sort of attention!  Bryn has already taken a liking to it, possibly there are scents of long departed vermin still evident in the linings!

I bought this for £10.   Yes, I actually paid good money for it!   But I'm a sucker for a neglected old pram.

This is actually far worse than it looks, the wheels are shot, the interior has just about disappeared, the hoodframe is rusty, the S-bars are shot -  need I go on?

Everything is now dismantled and the body has gone off to the spray shop.   I've asked for a very deep navy if possible so here's keeping my fingers crossed!

I'm not sure what the re-chromers will make of the chromework, perhaps they will reject it being in such a bad state!

The body is back from being sprayed!

Yes, you're right, it's black!!

I think Dave must have forgotten that I asked him for navy blue, never mind, at least I haven't covered the hood yet - that would have been very annoying to say the least.  At least it's lovely and shiny, as usual he's done a great job.

Just one thing disgruntles me a bit is that he has put silver coachlines on it and any purists amongst you will know that silver was never used for coachlines, usually white or cream on the darker colours and the colour of the hood was used on a light colour.   Perhaps I should have a word in his ear.

I think I may have to do some line painting now  - this could be fun!
