Hi lovely pram people. Can anyone help me identify my Silver Cross pram from my profile picture? Having trudged through 100's of photos I decided that it is nearest to the Sheraton. However, the frame is tubular with chrome sprung chassis which confused me a bit. As you can see it needs a lot of restoration but I'm not letting that put me off. My first job is to find the correct wheel size. If anyone can help with info on my pram I would be extremily grateful! x

Hi Clara

Thanks for posting on the Forum.

Yes your pram is a 1940s SilverCross Sheraton which was mounted on a tubular chassis and either leather straps or chrome shackles, as yours is.  I have one of each!!

The wheels were 20" x 18" but sometimes smaller wheels were ordered if the mother was of a shorter stature.

It would be nice to see your progress on the Sheraton, if you would like to send some photos of your project to classycanopies@hotmail.com and I will post them on the site.

Kind regards

Pat

Hi Pat

A big thank you for your reply and how lovely that you have 2 Sheratons!  Having given the pram a good look over I am confident that I can manage the restoration , however, one problem I do have is the handle. The white plastic part a lovely shape, widening in the middle. I would like to keep the handle however there are no end covers, nuts and whatever else is needed on the ends. Do you know where I can start to source replacement parts or replacement handle as it appears to be quite rare now? Looking forward to posting the photos of my progress and thank you for the invitation

Hi Pat

Sheraton restoration going well with hood and chassis stripped down so far. As you have 2 of your own can you tell me if the wheels are traditionally chrome or painted as I've seen both. Also, do you know where I can get reference information from? - Photos for example. Would the silvercross catalogue have anything maybe?

Thank you Pat

Hi Pat

Restoration going well with spare parts coming together nicely and stripping down nearly done. About to order lining and fabric from Sandra from Coachbuiltprams.org in preparation  to re cover the hood and reline the body.  Excited!

Can you help me with the wheels again? Is it correct that you can no longer buy new wheels to fit a pram of this age? I'm struggling to know which ones have the right fittings.

Thank you Pat

HI Clara, I would imagine the new Balmoral wheels would fit the Sheraton but I really can't be sure as I don't have any new wheels to try them out.   I wouldn't think the diameter of the axles have changed but it could be expensive trying to find out unless someone out there has tried.

Sorry I can be of more help Clara.

Pat.
