Hi there;

I was just wondering if anyone knows if the SX Arcadia (60's ~ on tubular chassis) was made with either chrome, or country wheels? (if this was considered an option?)... I have one in black, with chrome wheel rims, but I've recently seen one listed with the country wheels & wondered if it was done post-manufacturing, or if they would be original to the pram. The pram looks in wonderful original condition (coachlines still present), so I'd be hard pressed to beleive the body has been touched, & can't imagine how the chasis & wheels would've been in poor enough shape to need re-spraying?? I did notice the hubcaps are chrome, so if not original, it's been very well done, indeed.

Thanks, & have a pleasant day,
Brenda

Hello Barbara

If you remove the hood by unscrewing the little screws located just behind the hoodknobs underneath the fabric and then pulling the hood off from the back, you can wash it in warm water and shampoo. Rinse thoroughly and use some fabric conditioner in the final rinse. Dab off the excess moisture with either a towel or some kitchen towel - the best thing I've used is one of those yellow kitchen cloths which suck up loads of water! Then leave the hood tight to dry, never leave it slack otherwise it will split when you close the hood levers. You can wash the apron in the same way but roll it in a towel after the final rinse, just to get rid of the excess moisture. Then attach it to the pram to dry, again to prevent shrinkage.

If you buy a small brass bristle brush - usually from one of those pound shops, they are very cheap - and attack any rust with it, you will find the rust will disappear like magic! Then you can touch up any paintwork with an artists brush and perhaps some Halfords car spray paint to match the colour of your chassis.

The colour of the pram has altered, not because of misuse or anything like that, but because the body paint would have been oversprayed with lacquer when it was first done in the factory. This was to make the paintwork harder and more resistant to knocks, but the trouble is the lacquer has discoloured over the years. Very often you will find a white pram where the body has turned yellow, but the chassis has stayed white, this is because the chassis was not treated with lacquer but the bodywork was.

Anyway, hope this helps you to spruce up your pram, and of course any of you with similar jobs to do.

I have just been given a 1960 low silver cross pram . Ihave given it a good clean.The hood is very stiff and I would like to respray the chassis as there is slight rusting on the mudgard where the screws attach the mudguard to the wheels . How do I soften the hood material and advice on spraying would be appreciated the body lifts off the chassis When purchased the pram was probably Navy with a white body and chassis which now looks more like ivory any suggestions welcome
