PRAMAHOLICS' PHOTOS

Sometimes my pramaholic friends send me photos of their prams and also give me a little bit of history and I thought you might like to share them with me.

Jackie from South Wales has sent me some "Prams in the Snow" pictures which I thought you would love!  Jackie has a knack with a camera, as you can see!

Marnie from Gloucestershire sent me some photographs of her fleet, and some of them are wearing sets which I made for them.

Now this is what I call a pram room!!!  Marnie calls it her "Pram Emporium" and I don't blame her!!

Hello there.
I´m from Sweden and I recently found your site with all these really gorgeous, fantastic prams.
Yes, I´ve actually got one myself.
I got it back in the 1977 for my first child.
I was determind to get a classic pram for her, and I´d seen those wonderful Silver Cross prams in the stores.
I actually went in to one of those and got a really nice surprise when the man in the shop told me I could choose both colour, bodypattern and chassi and sort of design it myself.
I Just looked in a catalogue and chose body and chassi and asked if I could get it in a special colour.
He checked with the manufacturer and I could get it JUST the way I wanted it.
So I got it specially ordered from the fabric and it is a MILANO in what i suppose would be a rare colour for this pram. I simply love it and sent a couple of photos to hear what you think about it. It´s been a wonderful pram to walk with. It runs just as easy in the woods as on city streets. I´ve walked many, many miles with it.
Hope you like the photos. Please let me know what you think.

I´ve still got my pram. The photos I sent you were taken just the other day. It´s still in fairly good condition. The tyres are a bit worn though
I should be very, very proud to get it on your website.
I´ve never been able to part with it and still keep it in my house. I did put it away out in the garage for a couple of years but thought it might be damaged since there´s no heat out there so I moved it indoors.
I´ve used it very, very much. I´ve got four kids - all grown up of course - but I was always very fond of taking long daily walks with them, both in the woods and on the streets.
Those prams are really lovely to push.

This wonderful old Marmet belongs to Jean Chew in Australia.  Jean thinks it is a Braemar but I fancy it is a Marlin de Luxe.  Jean has spent a lot of time getting it up to scratch and all that work has resulted in a delightful pram to be proud of.   Jean has also made the beautiful canopy to match the livery.

This is Julie Grimshaw's pink SilverCross Arcadia - it used to belong to me but it was a navy blue Durham at the time!!   Julie really wanted a pink Arcadia and SilverCross Heritage Prams waved their magic wand over the Durham and made her dream come true.   I made the "Julie" set to match the pram so Julie's all in the pink now!

These beautiful prams belong to Paula, who posted this message on Preloved:

" .....................   I must also mention that when I was out with my grand daughter (9months) I was using the Dauphine, and I got such attention! People were looking and staring from their cars! Everyone I passed, as we went round the shore, by the water, where I live, commented! One man watched and waited until we drew close and he said that we had "made his day" He said what a wonderful sight it was to see a traditional "proper" pram, and that what a wonderful piece of engineering it was. He could not get over it!!!! He watched til we went a way off... just staring... It really is a joy to make everyone smile when they see a proper pram!!! It is really unusual to see such a sight around here, perhaps it will encourage a few mums around and about to also get proper prams. They may see mine and want one to! I do hope so. I would love to see another prammie around here! I do rather stick out ! But do I care? no.......!

This very rare SilverCross Burnsall belongs to Carole Westerman.   You don't see many of them about and I certainly haven't seen such a stunning pram for a long time!

The next photos were sent to me by Lyn Mettam who lives in Australia.  Aren't those two Birds of Paradise amazing?   Lyn asked me to recover the hood and apron on the blue one and this is the result, the green pram is slightly older, 1962 and also sits on bigger wheels than the blue one, 1965.

She has also sent a photo of a beautiful SilverCross Normandie in a chic maroon with gold flash livery, one to cherish I think!

Her third photo shows a 1965 Hubcar, which wasn't an English make as far as I know but I know you prammies will appreciate the lovely style of this strap-hung beauty!

The next three photographs were sent to me by Tina in north Essex and they feature her wonderful cream and black SilverDawne carrying her precious baby, Bea.   As you can see Bea had plenty of room to grow right from the beginning and is now able to go out and about cosily tucked up in her blankets with a couple of lovely pillows to support her, not only that but she is at exactly the right height to talk to her family and friends and take part in social activities.

This is what Tina says about her SilverDawne

"   I just asked Bea (who is 8 months tomorrow) and she said she’d love to go on the website.  I have really noticed the social thing – she is exactly the same height when in her pram as her 4 year old brother and 6 year old sister, and so they talk to her all the way to school in the mornings, and then all the other children crowd round her and she loves it and can join in beautifully with them all.

She insists on having her daytime sleep in it too, no matter what the weather; I have given up trying to put her in her cot in the daytime, and so she is in her snowsuit and hat, under about 5 blankets and out in her pram on the patio.  I dread it when it’s freezing cold, but that’s the way she seems to like it and she’ll sleep for about 3 hours out there.  I often think of how many other babies must have been in her pram, although I bought it from Sharon Tucker’s collection down in Aldershot, from ebay, and so I think it maybe hadn’t been in regular use for some time.  We’ve certainly put some miles on it though!  "

This beautiful Wilson Versailles belongs to Karen in Stafford, she ordered a new hood and apron to be done in British Racing Green and doesn't it make this wonderful pram look something else!

I had to put this one in here.  You will recognise it as my flagship gold Wilson Mulliner.  It is going to live with Elaine Hartill so it has been spruced up with a new hood and apron for its new life.   I needed to find a good home for it as I need the room for my Versailles collection!  I shall be sad to see it go but it has served me well.

This lovely old lady belongs to Anna Lutgen who lives near Chicago.  It is a 1950s SilverCross Consort in cream and taupe and Anna wanted a set to match the colours of the pram and I think this set called Purity works quite well. However, I think I will have to send her some new ribbons to replace those apricot ones, they don't quite match do they!

This wonderful Versailles pram used to belong to Kay who wanted a canopy and quilt to enhance the beauty of the colours in the pram so I came up with this pink and white confection of tassles and lace and pink ribbon.   It looks almost Victorian in this setting doesn't it!

The pram has since gone on to pastures new and the set now belongs to Kathy in Winnipeg.

This photograph was sent to me by Svanny in Iceland.   It is her SilverCross Marlborough all covered up and protected from the snowy weather.  Her baby boy is inside the pram, all snuggled up and warm against the cold, but he is having some fresh air and is none the worse for his outing!   I'm sure this would not be possible with one of the new buggy prams!!   If you would like to see more of Svanny's pram pictures go to http://silvercross.barnaland.is/

Whilst I'm showing Svanny's photographs, you might be wondering how she finds prams like these in Iceland!  Well she has them shipped over from UK - and this is how they arrive!!

This photograph was sent to me by my friend Frances Lillie in Canada, I had bought a SilverCross Harewood all in navy, which I had been looking for for 25 years, found this one in Canada and Frances collected it for me!  Unfortunately, or fortunately for Frances, it was not possible to bring it over from Canada so Frances acquired it!

This gorgeous Wilson Wedgwood belonged to Jacqui Moss and I made the covers to match the wedgwood plaque.  As you can see her ginger cat fully approves of the colour scheme!   It's amazing just how prams seem to attract cats, they love to bask in them, preferably with a soft coverlet but they will make do with the apron if no cover is available.

The Wedgwood has now gone back to it's previous owner, Jane Kirkwood.

Jacqui has just received four fleeces for some of her ladies and has sent me some more wonderful photos, Jacqui really has a knack with a camera!

This is the new Baby Balmoral in cream/black - it belongs to Sharon Moran who asked me to make a cream and black set for it, and doesn't it look sweet.

This is the pram in full view,

The lovely little red Pedigree in the next photograph belongs to Sheila in France.  She tells me she restored it in 2007 and now the little girls, who live close by, love to take it out for walks in the French sunshine.

This is what Frances Treagus wrote:-

My love of prams started with a pushchair at 5yrs,  then a twin Royale at 7yrs.which I kept until the 70s but as my daughter was not interested in it I sold, but 2yrs ago I managed to get one the same.I paid alot, travellled miles for and have even managed to get two matching chilton dolls.I am so pleased with it.I did keep my own canopy though from my childhood, and thats what started me off on my passion again.

The pic with me and the dog and pram is the one I used to babysit for he,Steve  was about 18months when I started looking after him,I had him come to stay with me for two weeks while his mum had another baby, soon after that they were posted to Kenya as his dad was in the army, alot for a girl of 8/9.I have not seen them since.
However, last year I just missed the end of auction for the same model, which funny enough was being sold in Aldershot,it may well have been it.Then to my suprise I saw it on your site with its new owner.   What goes around comes around.

I don't remember much about the pushchair except my mum had coloured dusters[Mmm.posh a!] lol and I used to use them as blankets.

Royale pram I had for my daughter Maxine in 1968 was second hand, mega big ,as they are, well it was a nightmare getting it into the house,I only had the 3ft square as you come in the door, the stairs were facing the door and the room went off to the door and stairs. To get it in I had to tip it up,bounce it up at least 3 stairs and then slowly try to manouvour it around to get it in the room.THe back of the house was the same ,no room to move there either. Oh I did remove the baby first though. I kept it for 8mths and used to walk to town daily and all around woolworth[just for something to do] but in the end I had to give in and my dad bought me a restmore detachable that was easier to handle, and see over the hood!!lol.
I still live in the same house as I did then and guess what? it is still the same ,hence I cannot push my prams out.once there in ,there in!lol.I have another Royale simular to it that you recovered for me but not quite the same model.

(This is one determined lady, eh girls?)

The twin Royale is just like the one my mum bought me for my 7th birthday as a treat as I nearly died with peritonitis.   I treasured it and washed it all over weekly.

You can see two of Frances' prams on the For Sale page.
